Laos activities and field sites

I-REDD+ research focuses on the area around Nam Et Phou Loey National Park, in Viengthong District, Huaphan Province and Viengkham District, Luang Prabang Province. The field site coordinator is National University of Laos

The two main study villages are Sakok and Samsoom in Viengthong District, but studies are also taking place in Viengkham District. The area outside the National park is dominated by shifting cultivation of upland rice and maize is the most important commercial crop as the rubber boom seen elsewhere in Laos is not yet dominating this area. The landscape is a mosaic of different stages of forest regrowth typical for shifting cultivation areas.

See further description of the region in I-REDD+ deliverable 3.1
